OR-OSHA Standards

Currently the OR-OSHA cab protection standards require a certified OPS and a non-certified FOPS cab structure on all machines manufactured before June 30, 2004. With the increasing technology and passing of time, however, OR-OSHA is beginning to institute a new policy that is much stricter for newer machines.

Standards for all machines manufactured on or after July 1, 2004: Machines capable of 360 degrees of upper structure rotation must work on surfaces that are prepared, excavated or constructed of solid material with a slope of less than 20% UNLESS the operator's cab is equipped with a certified FOGS & TOPS cab structure.

In addition to these new regulations, OR-OSHA is looking towards the future and has recently announced the new standards that will take effect on those machines used in forestry activities on or after July 1, 2009 regardless of manufacturing date.

Standards as of July 1, 2009: Machines capable of 360 degrees of upper structure rotation must work on surfaces that are prepared, excavated or constructed of solid material with a slope of less than 20% UNLESS the operator's cab is equipped with a certified FOGS & TOPS cab structure and non-forestry certified ROPS.
