Rowe "Chip" Kinney

2008 ThinkBig Graduate showing off his skills

During this 24-month program, you will learn about engine fundamentals, machine hydraulics, fuel systems, electrical systems, transmissions and torque converters, undercarriage, final drives and more.  You'll have the opportunity to experience future career possibilities through firsthand on-the-job training, letting you put theory into practice during paid internships.  Upon successful completion of the program, you will earn an Associated of Applied Science degree form Portland Community College (PCC) and have the opportunity for a fantastic career with Peterson Machinery.

The program is designed to develop the skills a technician needs to progress within the ranks of a Caterpillar dealership's service network.  Students learn to diagnose problems, disassemble, and examine components for defects and excessive wear, and recondition or replace parts on Caterpillar machines.  They will also learn to test and adjust components and systems to insure proper operation and to prevent failures.  Sophisticated diagnostic equipment and personal computers will be used for testing, troubleshooting, record keeping, and communications within the college program and at the dealership.

Students who complete this program are projected to earn excellent pay, have stable employment, and receive one of the best benefit packages in the industry.  Dealership employee benefits may include medical and dental insurance, retirement and pension plans, and a strong commitment to lifelong learning.  "Promote from within" philosophies also provide excellent opportunities for career advancement.  So if you're interested in a career with the biggest name in the heavy equipment industry, then the Dealer Service Technology Training Program is for you.
